Chennai International Fashion Week
One of the cities which have remained untapped by the fashion industry is Chennai. Come December, the city will witness the largest fashion week in the country, or so they say! Chennai International Fashion Week (CIFW) will feature over 10 international designers 12 countries around the world along with a treasure of our Indian designers with talent. With the vision of providing an international platform for designers India to showcase and sell their collections to the global fashion world, the gala event is scheduled for December 14 to 20, 2009 at the luxurious Le Royal Meridian in Chennai. Also is subject to present India as an important fashion destination for foreign buyers and designers who want to succeed in the markets of Southeast Asia.
Why Chennai as the venue? Gaurav Sharma, head of the fashion storm Company, organizers and event producers said in a lighter vein, "The city has always been known for its warm climate, so we thought of what is high! The first edition has been strategically located in Chennai for its proximity to Tirupur; one of the greatest lines of clothing for export in India. 30 Indian fashion designers, invited 10 international designers, fashion shows 35, 60 models of India and abroad - all gathered at this event. The designers will present the latest trends that dominate the spring and summer of 2010-11. The program also have 10 international beauty contest winners from various countries to walk the runway! The event is backed by a strong board and managed by professionals. Under the direction of marketing and professional services Gaurav Sharma, advisors to the team include Chennai Shakthi own Girsh, Pratap Pothen, Arun Mammen, Ramdass Girish and Meera Chopra. Some of the Indian designers who will participate include Kataaria Pria Puri, Shane & Falguni Peacock, Vikram Phadnis, Ajjampur Sanchita, Aslam Khan, Satya Paul, Jason & Anshu, and Neeta Lulla Lulla Nishka.
Anshu Designer label shared small store from which they are based in Chennai and already have stores, thought it would be good to be part of an event so huge. We will be presenting our Spring / Summer collection called Ati-Na. Kataaria Pria Puri is scheduled to start show with Bollywood actress Neetu Chandra as the show stopper. The grand finale will be by designer Neeta Lulla and this event will also provide a platform for 10 new designers to present their talent.
Speaking of the event's sponsors, Gaurav revealed, Kingfisher is the lead partner. Besides him, Arvind Mills is a partner and look for more partnerships. Constantly moving towards the main event, the organizers have planned a model for India in Bangalore Auditions on 08 November 2009 and the models will be critically evaluated by a panel of judges composed of Anupama Verma (Super Model, Actress and Fashion Producer), Mehar Bhasin (Fashion Choreographer / Expert toilet), Pravin Talan (International Celebrated Photographer) Atul Kelkar (Consultant), Rahul Dev Shetty (Fashion Model / Choreographer). Mehar Bhasin says, show CIFW director - has been my dream to act in Chennai and CIFW has been a unique platform with the concept of world fashion. Of the 35 shows, I will be ten choreographies main sample. We are trying to have new faces with good catwalk styles. More is an opportunity to present the modeling world with the debut of the faces. One of the jurors, Rahul Shetty added, modeling auditions, I'm looking for someone who is fresh, vibrant, young and confident. The model does not have to be pretty body, but must have the attitude, good height and provided attractive, good-bye.
