The art of fashion with Topiary
Topiary art configuration of live plants in ornamental forms is often a feature of the cottages big and large estates, with its spectacular gardens with magnificent sculptured hedges and geometric shape of trees and shrubs. Many of the cottage gardens of age also have their works of living art. The peacocks and all sorts of creations from animals to rise above the packed, the edges of colors to create a master image. Topiary has been practiced for over 2000 years and back to the Greeks and Romans. It became fashionable in Europe in the late 16th century when many of the great palatial residences were built. Topiary is an art form that anyone with a pair of scissors can create. The effect can be impressive topiary can add character and individuality to any garden. Topiaries today have become very popular garden features once again and assume a variety of forms from formal to playful. Teddy bears, cats and many others forms bind to the more traditional forms.
Topiary The art of trying to control growth, to form the shapes of her desire. Also for control the level of annual growth in order to maintain the forms once they have achieved. The practice is to increase the surface density of the parts - to promote close and very even end up on the outside and hopefully a strong and relatively rigid structure underneath.
With most of the species used for topiary and in most climate zones, growth is defined seasons (spring and summer) and a dormant period (Autumn / Fall and winter). Aesthetically, the parts of hedgerows look best when trimmed to tight lines assigned forms. This means that they are at their best right after they are cut fresh and cleared before new growth the contours of the forms again.
To maintain optimum sharpness creations outline for the longer period is achieved by reducing growth beyond the end of the growing season. This is a popular technique used most frequently in large collections that maintenance should be reduced to minimum quantity of parts and cutting the amount of work involved. In the UK, working conditions more clipping is approached in late summer. Therefore, this then yields the longest period of time - all right until the following May / June in which to see and enjoy the well-cut shapes.
When topiary is still in its formative stages, the reduction is generally performed more than once each year to provide the best results. This may be particularly necessary when the test species is very vigorous in growth and continually blurs the boundary, or when very finely detailed characteristics must be maintained. In these cases, the cut may be necessary every four to six weeks.
Beware of cuts in adverse weather conditions. Very cold, icy conditions would be the time suitable for cropping. Some varieties such as the Box (Buxus sepervirens) can be seriously damaged if short periods of frost. With this kind is traditional court after the last chance of frost has passed nocturnal radiation - usually in late May or early June. Any new growth from then have enough time to tighten the conditions before the return of cold in the winter.
Many gardeners temp by the good weather of spring to cut in April. Unfortunately the plants were immediately asked to produce fresh growth, which is often killed or severely damaged by late spring frosts hard during May. Cut too late in the growing season also asks the hazardous production of supply of new shoots. Growing old painting however, is of course relatively resistant.
Yew is usually cuts more than once a year for a more strength, more controlled. A seat of the first great wave of new growth can take place in July.
A second clean-cut any new outbreaks takes place in September. With this species, if a single seat a year ago, then any time after the end of August will do, but preferably before the worst winter conditions. Early, not trim later, must always be the aim.
Bush honeysuckle (Lonicera nitida) and Privet (Ilex Lgustrum) species are as vigorous as producers need to repeatedly cut during the season growth. While Beech (Fagus sylvatica) and Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) require only a single adjustment of the end of August to stay clean. His golden autumn / fall foliage should be maintained for much of the winter to enhance its decorative effect.
Holly (Ilex aquifolium) and some evergreen leaves large have been cut in late spring and perhaps again in late summer. These species have very large leaves, which can look ugly if cut using machines hedge cutting. They are often approached more slowly, eliminating individual secateaurs outbreaks.
It is never too ambitious when embarking in topiary, a field of identification, cone-shaped or small bird is better than an unidentifiable mass! Although experts hedges often are able to create forms simple, without the aid of a frame, for beginners a wire frame will give guidance for successful cuttings. Today we are able to purchase frames of all kinds of shapes and sizes. After choosing the desired shape, place the metal structure in the soil or container, above and around existing shrub and clip the whole frame topiary using scissors. It is then a matter of cutting the new shoots that grow beyond the frame.
Building fences is not something that can be executed at weekends neither a season, as it can take up to 10 or 15 years to reach its true potential. Moderately small evergreen shrubs that are naturally complete and fairly rapid growth and produce the best cut topiaries. Other trees and shrubs appropriate are: Bay (Laurus nobilis), cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa) Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), juniper (Juniperus), Thuja (Cupressus plicata) and yew (Taxus baccata). One solution for those who lose patience with everything that needs time to get done, is to buy a sample pot, grown and as the ripeness of the nursery, although, naturally, come at a price!
