Create a Fashion Stir with the Samsung S5150 Diva
Samsung is starting 2010 right with a new line-up of affordable lady phones. One of them is the Samsung S51050 Diva folder or Olivia in some countries. It sports a clamshell form factor that has sculpted body patterns unique among fashion phones. This is not a high end mobile phone and Samsung hopes to open up your wallets at a time when most of your cash reserved will be going to pay-off your credit cards that covered your shopping sprees during the holidays. But at an affordable price point and a design that is sure to appeal to many ladies and young housewives, there’s a good chance there’d still be some loose change lying around.
Features at a Glance
The new lady phone is a basic tri band GSM900/1800/1900 mobile phone with GPRS/EDGE housed in pretty clamshell/folder body measuring a petite 94.0 x 47.0 x 17.4 mm when closed and weighing a pocket and handbag-friendly 82.8 grams. There’s no 3G or WiFi so you can’t get high speed internet or hotspot support. But this is quite forgivable on a budget basic mobile phone. But you can still go high speed with local wireless data synch and transfers between your handset and any Bluetooth device.
As in any entry-level mobile phone these days, you get a 2.2-inch QVGA TFT LCD display with 16 million colors. There’s a secondary monochromatic display hidden under the sculpted textured body that gets illuminated to show battery status, date and time and an alert for alarm, incoming calls and text messages.
Imaging comes with 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera with QVGA video recording and a software-assisted Beauty Effect that automatically enhances close-up portrait shots and a Lomo effect for clear old-style shots. You get capable media players supporting popular audio and video file formats and an FM radio. You can use a wireless stereo earphone set with its Bluetooth 2.0 A2DP support.
There’s a 40 MB internal memory for expandable with a microSD slot for up to 32 GB for all your storage-hungry media files. There’s an 800 mAh lithium-ion battery that provides up to 7 hours of talk time and 7.8 days in standby mode.
The new handset carries a TouchWiz user interface customized by Samsung to look distinctly feminine in look and feel. There’s an application that keeps tab of your shopping called “Wish List.” There’s also an “etiquette mode” that puts the phone into silent mode when in a meeting or social event. You get the usual browser and email client as well as social networking access right from the homescreen.
Coming Out Soon
The new Samsung S5150 Diva is expected to land on European markets by January 2010 with other new affordable mobile phones welcoming the new year for the Korean mobile phone maverick. It will launch in Russia first, followed by the Ukraine and the Netherlands with the rest of Europe following. There’s still no pricing information as of this writing but as a budget handset, you can expect this to in the €120 – €150 SIM-free price range and free in any 12-month subscription plan.
