Old-fashioned recipes for pumpkin pie and Squares Pumpkin Bars
Sometimes we tend to think of pumpkin only in the fall or during the Thanksgiving and Christmas. But we must not fall into that trap. The pumpkin is a choice of healthy food and should be enjoyed throughout the year. While pumpkin pie is probably desserts Most Popular pumpkin certainly is not alone. There are many pumpkin dessert recipes and following are two good ones. Pumpkin Pie Squares can actually be used in place of cake pumpkin, especially if you want to change things up a bit. And pumpkin bars are always a tasty treat. So to create a delicious pastry and dessert for tonight!
This recipe is from cookbook of an old church in the Midwest United States.
1 cup sifted flour
1 / 2 cup quick oatmeal
1 / 2 cup brown sugar
1 / 2 cup butter
2 cups pumpkin
1 can (13 1 / 2 oz) evaporated milk
2 eggs
3 / 4 cup sugar
1 / 2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 / 4 teaspoon cloves
1 / 2 teaspoon ginger
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Using an electric mixer, mix the flour, oats, brown sugar and butter until crumbly. Place the mixture in the bottom of a 9x13 inch pan. Bake for 15 minutes. In a large bowl, mix pumpkin, milk, eggs, sugar, salt, cinnamon, cloves and ginger until well blended. Pour mixture over baked crust. Return to oven and bake for 40 minutes. Make filling and sprinkle down on the pumpkin mixture in the last twenty minutes of baking time.
cup FILLING: Mix 1 / 2 chopped nuts, 1 / 2 cup brown sugar and 2 teaspoons butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over pumpkin mixture as noted above.
Old Fashion Pumpkin Bars
This recipe is from a church cookbook 1970s.
1 cup oil
2 cups sugar
2 cups pumpkin
4 eggs
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon soda
1 / 2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon cinnamon
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Beat oil, sugar, pumpkin and eggs together until well blended. Combine flour, baking powder, soda, salt and cinnamon in a sieve. Sift the mixture in the pumpkin mixture. Mix well. Grease a jelly roll pan and pour mixture into prepared pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Frost with a powdered sugar glaze or cream cheese frosting, if desired
