Fashion designer John Rocha

Department store name seems to be attracting an increasing number of notable fashion designers as both sides of the coin fashionable to see the mutual benefits of this friendship. John Rocha who made a name for itself with the label of Chinatown in Dublin in the 1980s is a perfect example of this symbiotic relationship.

Born in 1953 in Hong Kong of China and Portuguese descent, John Rocha graduated from the Croydon School of Art in London and quickly moved to Dublin, Ireland where he began his career with the label of Chinatown. Irish linen use during their studies inspired his move to the country he still calls home. From the beginning of his career, John has worked to develop and refine their own distinctive style born during his early years in Ireland and is still strongly influenced by the material, silhouette and technique.

John threw 5 different ranges of British Debenhams stores under the name Rocha.JohnRocha Fall-Winter 2000, including menswear, womenswear, children, accessories and home and living. Its unique combination of Chinese and Celtic design and its influences key can be clearly seen along their collections and have been described as normal, simple and fluid, but at the same time funky and portable.

In addition to designing for Debenhams, John has designed specifically for celebrity clients such as Angelica Huston, Marianne and true to the pop star Ronan Keating.

He has extended exterior design of the clothing and home interior accessories. In 1997 the John Rocha at Waterford Crystal collection was successfully launched in May 1999, the Morrison Hotel Dublin was the first of Juan interior design project and is now one of the most popular hotels in Europe. Successes of projects outside the realm of fashion have been John also to start a jewelry line for women.

John has twice been awarded the prestigious British Designer of the Year title 1994 and 2002. He has also received the Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen's New Years Honours List.

After its publication, John Rocha, texture, shape, purity, in detail, an illustrated study of John's design philosophy and influences, it is clear that there is no path that will design unopened by this designer. His creations appeal to the masses and the elite and has an eye for both maintaining their own creative side and be able to explore all time. A designer to watch for in the future and learn from their past designs, it is fortunate for us that we continue to see growth through its Easy access lines in Debenhams.
