What is it? What artistic practices can contribute to the cultivation of resilience

Resilience, by definition, refers to how well individuals and systems to bounce back from disruptions to current conditions. These interruptions can throw people into a different reality changing its relationship with time, money, a sense of security, even their sense of self. Certain practices can help an individual process of disruptive change and make sense of where they are now in the landscape. Artistic practices, for example, include things such as drawing different perspectives, taking time to reflect and consider the matter, and spend time replenishment of creativity and visiting galleries and other similar experiences that provide inspiration. Buddhist thought teaches that what we resist persists. Instead of being reactive and trying to fight or settle things instinctively, participation in artistic experiences may allow we stay in the new experience enough to help us begin to process their new conditions. This is not an endorsement of non-action, but rather take the necessary pause be proactive and not reactive. Life need not be a two-step event and react, but rather can be a three-step waltz. We have a better result when we pause to to our next "right step" in action.

Linda Lundstrom is an entrepreneur, award-winning Canadian fashion designer.

She is a true entrepreneur, with an enormous capacity, making the work of ten people each day. Linda is a strong soul who has brought back to the robustness of business after a skirmish near bankruptcy. She used this setback as a learning experience to improve your business and your life.

Linda is an artist very creative with fabric and scissors in their midst. There is also art in the way Linda conducts its business. Brenda Zimmerman, author and academic complex, has been written about Linda is how simple solutions on the other side of chaos to navigate their international manufacturing and retail company through the ever-changing reality. One thing contributing to the strength of Linda is his ritual bath every day. Inside "SwimEx" is like a treadmill water in a personal-size pool in a beautiful, spa-like with a painting vibrant, beautiful in her line of sight. Linda uses her time in the water for just-in a moving meditation. "I I put my best ideas when I'm in the water. "The repetitive nature of the movement after a stroke has a calming effect on the nervous system, causing relaxation response. It also creates the space necessary to integrate past and current events so that the end result is restorative. When not reflect on and integrate past experience the lingering effects can be created and become a drain mental, physical and spiritual that deprives us of any capacity for resistance you may have.

The integration of a dip in his eventful life is very intentional on the part of Linda. It is not just about creating more capacity to handle stress. It's a way create the necessary space required to widen the creative process to occur. It is also an option for a particular lifestyle that is integrated, artistic, and connected to something larger than herself. Linda is not limited to designing and making clothes, she gets out of bed every morning ready to help women everywhere feel very good about themselves. The time on the water allows Linda to connect to the base of what she really is and always has been. The discipline to return in this regard, further resilience you need to run a business and the world of fashion, dangerous, at best cases.

There are many ways to find yourself in this regard, and each of us can find our unique approach. From one perspective, this is fundamental to the work of an artist. On the other hand, some people cook or garden or putter with vintage cars as the way to stop and reconnect with themselves. The question we invite you to ask is, "Are you making time and space to just BE? "Or you've filled your time with frantic bustle or the downtime is just numb out, such as watching television or surfing the internet?

As another example of artistic practices and their contribution to capacity building strong, artists are a perfect example of the dynamic resistance of motivation that is set when people live according to their mental, spiritual, psychological and DNA. Motivation is intrinsic, so sketch artists, drawing and paint, and the musicians, actors and dancers rehearsed over and over again. The work has a natural rhythm, even when it is demanding, it is ultimately affirming and encouraging and not exhausted. This discipline builds confidence in their abilities. The magic of unconscious competence brings a total commitment by the artist who refuses to allow tentative gestures. Immersed at work, artists in general focused and grounded. They learn to see, not just look at the angles of notice, spatial relationships, intensity, to see what is really there. In a sense, are intimately connected to what is real in the paint, gesture or hue. experienced artists trust that errors or unexpected events can be used as a catalyst for creating something new. They also develop the clarity to know when an interrupt is of a scale that a new address is a better option.

RESISTANCE IN ACTION

Leif Benner is a goldsmith and designer master making one-of-a-kind pieces for your most demanding customers. [i] is one of a handful of young designers and artists who have a strong customer base and that makes your work so that integrating their gifts and talents with a successful business model. Three years after establishing his own studio Toronto in the new arts center, the historic Distillery District, Leif space study was brutally plundered, destroying everything they had built in a coup devastating. Leif had a young family to support and from the perspective of an outsider, had a difficult decision to make your next step.

Leif is naturally resistant as a result of its combination of self-proclaimed head bull and relentless optimism. For he had no choice but to move forward. The work was an integral part of who he was, and no external events that would be the arbitrator, setting options for their future beyond their control. Leif has been handling materials in a creative endeavor throughout his life and, in particular, as a goldsmith, has developed a refined sense of what he can control and what can not. He knows when you call one day and the time to trust in His ability to stay the course.

In addition to this tangible sense, practical consciousness, Leif also has a sense of larger purpose: He is a designer and goldsmith. Leif explains, "I like people and make personal connections. The Couples who come to me to design their commitment and wedding rings holds, and I get the occasional invitation to the celebration. What is all about for me is be part of that time optimistic that people enter into that union. "

As much as the natural resistance of Leif helped start again this alignment with your passion, talent, and biggest goal is what keeps him going. Leif changed things, and in six months it had recovered its losses and the restoration of their business with the systems and strategies to protect you in the future.

CONCLUSION

My final thoughts back to the phrase, "What is it?" When we open ourselves through self-knowledge and decision making to design our life to be true to who we are, it's amazing what naturally falls and opens it for us and for others. To quote Joseph Campbell: "When you follow your bliss, doors will open where you do not have thought there would be doors and where there would be a door for anyone else. "

Living with art is connected to the purpose and the purpose is the core motivation and resilience. Friedrich Nietzsche perhaps said it best: "He who has a why to live can bear almost any how. "
