2008 Trends Hot New Toys

All toy companies are interested in increasing sales in a stagnant 22 billion U.S. dollars market, want to know which toys are hot for the year. Invariably, the toy trends for the year are strongly influenced by movies being released this year. This year, there are some awesome icons vying for our attention - Indiana Jones, the Incredible Hulk, Iron Man and Batman. Apart from these superheroes, the hot toy trends for 2008 also include dinosaurs, robots, musical toys and of course, web connected toys!

Apart from these, "Electronics and the Internet. That's what kids are obsessed by this," said Jim Silver, editor and co-editor of Toy Wishes magazine. "They have an iPod, who are on Facebook and some are an email to five years."

1. Web Connected Toys

IToysWe all know and love Webkinz, the pioneer of the "virtual toy" revolution. Webkinz is still doing very well and now have joined several other toy manufacturers. Shining Stars, TY Girlz, Barbie and Russ now even TY Beanie Babies. Apart from the dolls and stuffed toys, a new preschool game that incorporates the game well and technology. Called Me2 of IToys. Also worth noting is clickable, a wonderful line of toys Technosource. Clickables integrates the virtual world of fairies Disney toys for girls. There are plenty of web connected toys and dolls. 2. Dinosaur Toys
Dinosaurs have been around for a while (remember the very recent Pleo?), But certainly did their presence felt at the Toy Fair! Here is a dinosaur which was hard to miss - Kota the Triceratops from Playskool. This creature is very high at approximately 40 feet and is equipped with sensors, which when activated, they do move the head, tail and horns. Kids will enjoy being in this fun (and very expensive) child. Another dinosaur in the center comes from using Mattel. D-Rex, a dinosaur remote control with a lot of different sounds and realistic movement aims to fascinate children this year.

3. Indiana Jones Toys

HasbroIndiana Jones is really something to look forward this year. The movie Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Skull Glass is scheduled to be one of the hottest films of 2008. No wonder then, that Lego, Hasbro and the rest have gone by train from Indy! The plot of the film not yet fully revealed. However, Lego had some wonderful sets based on Indiana Jones. The games include Indiana Jones LEGO Indiana Jones Temple Escape, Indiana Jones's career stolen treasure, Indiana Jones and the Lost Tomb and Indiana Jones Motorcycle Chase. Some of Hasbro's Indiana Jones offer includes Mr. Potato Head: Stew's ark lost, Indiana Jones Sound FX Whip and of course the action figures of Indiana Jones.

4. Science and nature-related toys

Pacifici Jakks noticed a variety of Science Kits and nature themed toys Toy Fair this year. Elmers (cola company) had some kits of science represented by the great Bill Nye, the man of science. Scientific Explorer had a lot of fun games to offer, where children can experience with fascinating things like bubbles, perfumes, volcanoes and more. The biggie in the science category is none other than EyeClops from Jakks Pacific, which updates (Read the night vision and a larger increase) available. Also, Uncle Milton's Ant Farm fame had some fresh produce from Indiana Jones to show base.

5. Batman - The Dark Knight Toys

MattelThe new Batman movie, The Dark Knight is scheduled to be launched later this year. Mattel has a series of Batman-related toys and action figures sleeve. The Batmobile stealth technology Wayne Tri Fire Blaster are in need. Apart from these two, there are plenty of options for fantasy games and Batman action figures from Mattel. Lego also has some major issues of Batman construction sets for this year.

6. Speed Racer Toys

MattelSpeed Racer is another big movie franchise on which Mattel has a great lineup of toys. I know that Hot Wheels has a Morph Mach 6 vehicle and an interactive center to offer as well as the Speed Racer Sky Jump Track Set among other toy vehicles. The film should triggering a craze for racing cars and the toy is going to be huge. Lego also had some great games Speed Racer on display at Toy Fair. Personally, I think this is the franchise to consider.

7. Animated Toys / Robots

Fisher-PriceOk, so now everyone must have heard Elmo Live talking about, right? Well, the animated toy trend seems to be very common this year with Elmo Live, Hasbro's Biscuit, Playskool's Kota the Triceratops, ISobot Tomy and more. While I'm on the subject, I should mention that just in advance to an adorable duckling from Hasbro Furreal Friends line - is too cute for words. As I, it seems that everyone enjoys seeing animated animals nowadays!

8. Iron Man Toys

HasbroHasbro has a fantastic line of action figures based on Iron Man. This is another film in the franchise for this year is going to be popular with Marvel fans.

9. Green Toys

It is no wonder that everyone focuses on the game healthy and safe this year. The green is the predominant theme, with many companies toys promoting organic products. A toy manufacturer really liked was toys Plan Indonesia, which had a wonderful lineup of wooden toys natural. There were some toys made from recycled milk bottles from a company called Green Toys. They had tea sets, gardening sets and beach sand is put on display that looked very attractive. I also noticed the line of wooden planks Kapla building that falls in the "green" category. 12. 10. Incredible Hulk Toys

HasbroThe Hulk was in a lot of places at the Fair Toy 2008. I especially loved the line of designs for children Hulk laptops and learning toys. Hasbro has a fantastic collection Hulk toys including the much awaited Hulk Smash Hands, an animated stuffed toy Hulk, conventional Hulk action figures, a Hulk power glow electronic mask, a Hulk dart blaster and much more. It seems that green is very popular in more ways than one!

11. Musical Toys

Kid Designs for the last couple of years, the toys based on musical instruments has really grown in popularity. Remember Piano Wizard, Piano Made Easy, I can play Guitar, Guitar Hero and other similar toys? This, along with musical toys based on celebrities like Hannah Montana and successful American television series Idol and practically dominated the musical toy scene. This year, the trend continues with some more Hannah Montana toys, new DVD games based on American Idol (KIDDesigns have a great game of American Idol DVD) and more. Stay tuned. (No pun intended)

12. Keyboard for toddlers, Spiderman Wallcrawler

The portable DVD player is made to withstand the abuse of a child. It has a TFT color screen of 3.2 inch batteries rechargeable batteries with a duration of two hours, an anti-skip buffer, handles and a stand for handsfree viewing. The player that plays DVD and CD, comes with a charger battery and power adapter, video output jack and a headphone jack.

13. Wall Crawler Spider-Man

"Wall Crawler Spider-Man" is an outstanding innovation from Hasbro. The remote control Spider-Man toys, which incorporates the technology of vacuum pump, in reality creeps higher and walls.

Last but not least, classic toys are very much in the forefront. This year, many classics were celebrating their anniversaries. My Little Pony Hasbro celebrates its 25 anniversary with a birthday party at the beautiful showroom of Hasbro, with a cake cutting! Cabbage Patch Kids is celebrating its 25 anniversary as well. The Lego brick is celebrating its 50 anniversary with a commemorative gold brick. Other trademarks held this year include Scholastic Clifford the big red dog, the toy company Wham-O and Mary Meyer (who turns 75 this year). We'll finish congratulate Mr. Potato Head Hasbro is becoming 80 this year. Way to go!
