Interns college can be an excellent asset free or low cost to employers

By: Geoff Ficke

The economy is in tatters. We all know it. Now let's put reality behind us and prepare for the next boom will inevitably follow once they digest all abuses the government has dumped on business.

I teach quite often in schools and universities. My theme always involves the dynamics of the market and the need of entrepreneurs to continuously push forward the economy with exciting new products, ideas, services and new concepts, different companies. This growth is the generator real wealth, new businesses, jobs, tax revenues and benefits to consumers who have made capitalism the major source of improved living conditions in history.

I'm always excited after meeting a new group of students. They are full of possibilities, energy and creative enthusiasm. They are incredibly entrepreneurial. In his eagerness to gain business experience are also an amazing resource available and affordable for small businesses, start-up businesses and entrepreneurs to use in their companies.

I attended college in the 1960s. In those ancient times worked part-time jobs all worldly in order to earn money for books, tuition and general living needs. My friends and I never heard the term "practice." We trying to make it through this semester, the future would have to take care of itself in due time.

Today, the universe of students is different. Many universities, such as the University of Cincinnati, offers a formal study / work program co-op/internship. Other universities have placement offices that help students work experience important, and often course credits by working in companies that are parallel to the older students. The student seriously today almost always graduates with one or more internships for inclusion in their curriculum vitae. This makes them much more interesting to potential employers.

Entrepreneurs and small businesses often lack money to hire the full complement of staff they need. These institutions can not pay cash strapped competitive wages, benefits, taxes and compliance with work rules that required full-time employment, however, have real needs of the tasks to be performed.

An excellent win-win for employers and students is a list of practices. In the current economic malaise paid internships have been drastically reduced. The need, however, for students to gain experience to improve resume has never been greater. They work for little, and in some cases almost nothing about the compensation in order to gain real business experience.

We have had students Duchess marketing approach, our customers the product consulting firm, for guidance in obtaining internships. Similarly, we have many financed by employers under the search approach assistance to clarify market research, demographic study, exploration sales, advertising concepts and many other disciplines. This is potentially a great marriage of opportunity meeting need.

The small businesses or entrepreneurs should contact the appropriate Dean of Faculty at a local university. Inform the office of the dean of their needs, the project to be assigned the student and working conditions or employment. The Dean usually publish those opportunities at the College notice board. Important! Ask your dean or professor a reference, if there is a possibility that the practice can be a source of credit, of course, or improvement of the grade for the student. This is a great motivator for students to aggressively pursue the internship program opportunity, then when engaged, to carry out assigned tasks in a more exemplary. Remember, students need experience and a strong reference to practical performance.

For students who lack the experience and the need practices occasionally suggest that offering to work in a "Proof of Life" basis. "Proof of life" means that the prospective offers to work in practices in order to prove their worth. Often, this strategy is carried out to obtain work experience, resume enhancement, professional references and course / credit grade. Obviously everyone deserves to be paid for their work product. However, times are different, and long-term view may require some staff the guerrilla marketing strategy.

Local universities are a wonderful resource. Not used as often as they should be small companies and entrepreneurs. Enjoy this incredible asset, after all, your tax dollars heavily subsidize their existence.
