A brief history of cosmetics
Cosmetics have been a part of civilization for most of human history. Archaeological Evidence showing that the first people to use cosmetics to enhance personal appeal were the ancient Egyptians. Just one look at a few exhibitions of Egyptian burial museums around the world to see that the makeup was an important part of ancient Egyptian culture.
It is also obvious from works of art and literature societies Ancient Rome and Greece also used cosmetics. There are even mentions of cosmetics scattered throughout the Bible. In addition to these cultures, cosmetics were used throughout history by people in other parts of the Middle East, China and Japan.
During the Middle Ages the use of cosmetics fell precipitously low, primarily because the religious leaders stated that the use of cosmetics was like prostitution (immorality or prostitution) and was a sign of the sinful nature of a person. This belief persisted for centuries until the arrival of the Renaissance.
From the Renaissance to the Industrial Revolution, men and women began to wear again in a cosmetic attempt to disguise its agrarian aspects. Farmers and other workers who work outside often had dark complexion, while the nobles who composed the upper strata of society often had clear skin. It was common for the general public to try to lighten their skin in an attempt to look like ladies and gentlemen who admired.
Makeup and other cosmetics exploded in popularity during the early years of the 20th century. This boom can be attributed to women trying to emulate their favorite singers and dancers as the advent of Hollywood fashion became the use of products in a furious fashion phenomenon. This was also precipitated the flowering of the largest cosmetic companies like L'Oreal, Revlon and Estee Lauder.
The competition between these companies started during the first part of the century and intensified during the following decades. These companies began mass producing cosmetics and skillfully marketed their products to women working in menial jobs the First and Second World Wars. These women need an escape route, and often cosmetics made feel better about themselves and their circumstances.
The popularity of television in the 1960s also changed the way in which markets cosmetics for women. Domestic companies advertise freely in the daily and weekly telenovelas. mothers who stay home will delight in these programs and became loyal to advertisers sponsoring them. The result was that women of all socioeconomic classes became purchasers of cosmetics, as it strives to emulate the heroines of television.
During the second half of the 20th century, a backlash began to form lower against some of the practices of marketing and production used by many cosmetics companies. The general conditions were particularly shocking for consumers including animal testing, false advertising and ethically questionable marketing to young children.
During the 1990s, the last decade of the century, in an effort to regain consumer confidence, cosmetics companies, including MAC and Sephora, decided to implement sustainable strategies, the final tests on animals and use packaging recyclable or biodegradable materials. This movement continues to gain momentum with a better education to consumers insist on quality, efficiency and test ethical behavior.
Cosmetics have been an integral part of society since the earliest civilizations, and its success is evident in the current market, despite some setbacks, people enjoy wearing makeup for cosmetics are here to stay.
