The loss of Fashion
Have we hit upon the idea of fashion right? The process that has been happening since the world began seems to have a defect in she. When you have a woman quite civilized and well-formed can not do anything else with it. And worth pondering what to do, what could we spend our energies on.
Not to admit that the fashion process has its cycles, that fashion and women, like trees and fruit, grow, mature, and then decay. The world has always had a presumption that the world could be made entirely of fashion, and all the house of a society constantly growing better. To achieve this we have striven to remove the bad taste in women and in nature:
Is there anything more satisfying than a perfect color, perfect fabric, the perfect texture, design and print placed in the most absolute harmony of taste and culture? What more can a woman with him? What satisfaction a woman in her if she really gets to the end of their power to improve it? There have been such nearly ideal situations, and nature so strong, always working against the women and in the interest of untamed wildness, likes to riot in them and reduce the destruction picturesque! Every big city has enough of the same element. Is this an accident, or is it a need of refinement that we insist on calling the fashion? We are always sending designers, models wild or perverted nations, we are always sending emigrants to occupy and to reduce the neglected territory. This is our core business. What would it be if the business were really accomplished, and most people were not to teach to our way of life, and no more territory to reclaim productive? Without the need to put forth this energy, the survival of the original force in man, How long our latest fashion? In short, if the world were actually all civilized, would not it be too weak even to mature? We have a gay confidence that we can do something for Africa. Can we reform London and Paris and New York, our hands have done?
If we can not, where is the difficulty? Is this a world without hope? You should always go for spurts and relapses, alternative fashion and habit, and habit is necessary to keep busy and growing? Or is there some error on our vision of fashion? Does our process too much eliminate the rough force, courage, endurance race? After a while I just live, or try to live?
These questions are too deep for these pages. Let the world pleasant, and launch a cover over the trash. We are doing very well, overall, given what we are and the materials we have to work. And we must not leave the civilized world so perfectly, the inhabitants, two or three centuries before, you have nothing to do.
