Having Their Cake and Eating it
Not to be confused with dark, short-lived, John Peel-approved rock trio of girls from the 60's, a pie California alternative group for men that has been the definition of rock 'geek' the end of the last decade and a half.
Whether the peculiar and often sarcastic content of their songs, or dry monotony, rap, as a vocalist and guitarist John McCrea, Cake have many of the qualities that medium is the weakest looking for an alternative to the, er, alternative. This type of fan base has led to comparisons with bands like The Dead Milkmen, They Might Be Giants and Camper Van Beethoven.
Formed in 1992, before the cake created a healthy cult following in California live circuit, often playing the depths of the blue light in his city home native of Sacramento, a city that has produced a number of famous bands like the Deftones, Blackalicious and Jimmy Smith, a jazz legend called "King of the Hammond B-3 organ."
live scene of the city remains healthy today, and hotels in Sacramento are available for anyone wanting to witness for themselves.
Pastel released an album of self-financing, self-recorded and self-distributed, Caravan of generosity, the following year before signing a deal with Capricorn Records, which lead to some airplay album's lead track, "Rock N 'Roll Lifestyle" on U.S. college radio influential network.
His second album, Fashion Nugget, was in 1996 and was home of what would become the band's most successful and best known song "The Distance." The song was an alternative radio hit and even became in the most unlikely of sports anthems. In the back of the success of "The Distance", a second rose from the album cover Band Gloria Gaynor "I Will Survive." Mainly due to the selfless dedication McCrea deadpan vocals, many critics saw the track like a fawning manner contempt, despite the protests of the band really loved it.
Shortly after the release of Fashion Nugget, bassist Victor Damiani and guitarist Greg Brown left Cake to form a new wave of influence band Deathray. This left McCrea and trumpeter / keyboardist Vince DiFiore as the only remaining original members the group as the original drummer Frank French had left before the recording of Fashion Nugget. For the third album by the band, extending the magic cake used a rotating cloud, new guitar team of five, with each track with a different link. The fourth album Comfort Eagle band has delivered another radio massive hit MTV, and one of the band number one single "Short Skirt Long Jacket." The video footage of the song appears in the mood of people selected at random on the street give their reaction to the song.
over Cake Pressure Chief album was released in 2004 and was followed by a b-sides and compilation rarities of this year, with a live album expected next year. Now, having sold several million albums worldwide and continues to tour extensively (Including a secret home in less-than-a capacity of hundred people from the aforementioned blue lamp earlier this year) seem to have their cake cake and eat, and enjoy it a lot.
