about getting into parsons school of design?
okay so, more than anything i want to get into parsons school of design and become a fashion designer. I've been taking sewing for two years and i am only a freshman, and I've been drawing for as long as i can remeber.I also used to take art lessons but had to quit and I recently got a book called 'Fashion Sketchbook' by Bina Abling from a library and learned a little from that.
Does anyone have any tips or things i could do during highschool to increase my chances of getting into the school? ANY tips would be extremely helpful=] thanks!
Actually, to major in fashion design you will have to take Freshman Foundation at Parsons which will be an intensive first year to build your traditional art skills. So it's really important to have a strong drawing background, which you said you have been doing for a while.
Instead of worrying about fashion sketches, practice in your still lifes and figure studies. Having sewing knowledge is good but isn't necessary as all of that will be covered anyway, focus on taking art classes. & If your school has a Studio Art AP class, take that too.
You also should start on building a portfolio now, you can always google Parson's Challenge portfolios (that accepted students have posted online for the admission counselors) to get an idea of what they are looking for.
